For those who are interested in canoeing, being a member of a canoe club is important. Not only there are lots of facilities that you can avail of by being a member, but you also get the chance to develop your canoeing skill under the supervision of professional coaches.

To be a member, you need to choose the type of membership as there are lots of options. Here you will know everything about getting a membership at a canoe club.

Types of Memberships

People of different ages become members of the canoe club. There are different types of memberships according to the age group. So, there is an adult membership for people more than 18 years old, junior membership for those less than 18 years old, family membership which includes 2 adults, and student membership.

So, you will select the type of membership according to your age and status. You need to show your ID and proof of date of birth when registering for the club membership.

Taster Sessions

For the new members, there is a free taster session. In this session, experienced paddlers will guide you to paddle safely. You can get a taste of what it will be like to become a member of the club. Instead of going to the river, some clubs offer pool taster sessions. If you haven’t paddled before, then this is a safe way to get some experience with paddling.

What to Expect

If you become a member of the canoe club, you can use the club equipment for free. You can also join the different club activities for free.

Once you become a full member, you need to attend regular club meetings, which usually take place once a week. You need to have 75% attendance in training sessions and complete at least 10 races a year. This isn’t that hard to achieve.

You can race during the weekends, and most clubs hold multiple races during the weekends. There can be extra training sessions during the weekend or longer sessions if you are up for any important event.

The membership experience varies from one club to the other. You should read the membership form carefully to know everything in detail.
